Sunday in “The Valley of The Sun”, aka Phoenix International Raceway, Denny Hamlin rocketed out of the pack to secure his first victory of the 2012 season. His team is making a statement early in the year that the combination of Denny Hamlin and new crew chief, Darian Grubb, may just be what the doctor ordered for the JGR #11 FedEx Toyota!
Once again, one of our fantasy players picked a winner. Carlton Lutz, one of our new players, nevertheless still a seasoned fantasy league player, picked Denny Hamlin to win at Phoenix. Carlton picked up a cool 47 points for his selection of Hamlin, he was the only one who stepped out on the limb to pick Denny Hamlin so early in the segment, after Hamlin’s less than sterling Chase performance. Notwithstanding his winner for Sunday, Carlton is still mired deep in 14th place! He can thank his whopping 5 points earned last week at Daytona for his pick of Jeff Gordon, who normally reels of some finishes at “The World Center of Speed”!
Jim’s good fortunes early in the segment has allowed him to maintain the lead in The Redneck Fantasy League. In addition to picking the winner last week, Matt Kenseth, he has had back to back great weekends, picking the second place finisher at Phoenix. At Phoenix Jim selected “Mr. Where Did He Come From”, Kevin Harvick, and was rewarded very nicely for his efforts. Indeed, having Harvick and Kenseth as his first two picks of the season really paid dividends for Jim, and kept him securely in the early lead!
Yours truly has had two very consistent weeks to begin this segment, allowing me to hang onto second place in the standings. My picks of Dale, Jr. at Daytona, (would I select anyone else there?), and “Mr. 5-Time”, Jimmie Johnson, allowed me to maintain my position in second place after just two weeks of racing.
Carole Gordon surged in the standings with her pick of ol Jeffie Gordon, tho winner of last year’s swing race her in “The Valley of the Sun”, all the while pocketing a nifty 37 points for her Sunday effort.
Eddie Hammack bolstered her position in the standings by also selecting J.J. as her pick and scoring 41 big ones for the Subway Fresh 500 on Sunday! That effort has her just two points behind Carole after just two races!
Rounding out the top five this week is the multi personality of my eldest son, and my tech man, Jason. Some segments he performs very well and other times he is lagging, kinda sounds familiar for all of us, right! However, he has started out fairly strong in this segment with a vote for Jimmie Johnson at PHX, thus scoring 41 points in week #2!
For the rest of the group, this week’s performances didn’t see any of the competitors failing miserably with picks finishing way back, or scoring a DNF (did not finish).
As the Sun rises this Monday morning, we all can turn our attention to next week at Las Vegas! Yours truly is looking forward to pulling the ol motorhome into the parking lot at LVMS, setting it up, getting two nights of dirt track racing in Weds. and Thurs. with late models, modifiers, and of course The World of Outlaws, and climbing into my seat in the Earnhardt Tower and watching the NNS and Cup cars do their thing.
In addition, I am looking forward to spending the weekend mornings in the Neon Garage with my camera, getting some more of those great pics to use on all my web sites!
PS We, mostly Jason (@davejunkie) with a little of me (@captainblowdri), are still cultivating this site. We are working on getting the forums and a few other things up and running so that all of us can banter, put our 2 cents in, and just have some good ol fun here at this site!
So hang with us, I promise you that when we get all the things worked out, we will have a fun web site to get involved with and enjoy!
See ya at the track!
TIL NEXT TIME, I AM STILL WORKING ON MY REDNECK!
