Dale Earnhardt, Jr

Look who is quietly sitting in the second place in the Sprint Cup Standings!  Junior Nation is alive and well, so far in the 2012 season.  I know that there is a Junior haters out there, and I know that he hasn’t won a  race in about four centuries, 132 races and counting, nevertheless his is plodding his way in this new season and finishing the races in the top ten.  In fact, Dale Jr. is only six (6) points behind the current points leader, Greg Biffle.

This weekend is the first scheduled night race of the young season.  As you noticed I emphasized the work scheduled.  As we all are aware the Daytona 500 was rain delayed by about 36 hours, and therefore ran on Monday night, making it the first actual night race of the season.

Check out the Sprint Cup standings after the first six races.

Just a short reminder of how we stand in our fantasy league:  Edie is still sitting atop the leaderboard after our off week.  Jim is trailing her by just six (6) points in second.  Following Jim in third place nine (9) point out the lead is Jerry, who only got five (5) points at Daytona,  In fourth place is Marc trailing the leader by just thirteen (13) points.  So you can see the top for places are only separated by thirteen (13) points.  And rounding out the top five is yours truly, trailing the leader by twenty-three (23) points

As the NASCAR family convenes in Fort Worth this weekend, the following thoughts I have listed about our Texas Motor Speedway picks.

After gazing over all the picks that we have selected for next Saturday night’s race, there are a few interesting picks for Texas.  Both Carlton and Bernie have last week’s winner from Martinsville as their collective picks, Ryan Newman. Both Carole and Karen have selected “Smoke”, Tony Stewart, to win at Texas. Meanwhile, Jim and Jason each have “Cousin Carl” Edwards on their team for Saturday night.

There are three of us who will be hanging out with the Sprint Cup points leader for this race, and will be “sticking with The Biff”.  Those three players are Dawn, Jerry, and yours truly, Leon.  There are also three players who have “The Las Vegas Weasel”, ol Kylie Busch, for TMS, Zee, Marc, and Edie.

Our resident lead-footed, dirt slingin’, throttle jockey, David, has “The Dinger”, A.J. Allmendinger as his choice for TMS, completely all to himself!  Other sole pickers are Carolyn with Harvick as her choice, Scott has Denny Hamlin, and Richard has Matt Kenseth for their Saturday night choices.

Remember that this race will be a Saturday Night race!  For this ol boy there is nothing cooler than watching a night race whether it is on television, or in person.  It  reminds me of my youth being taken by my older brothers to the old Kearney Bowl in Fresno on any given Friday night, or to the San Jose Speedway on Saturday nights, or in the last ten years going to Knoxville, IA for the Knoxville Nationalsl!

But the king of all night races, in my humble opinion, is the Camping World Truck race during Speedweeks at Daytona!  The atmosphere is totally electric!

Good luck to all!  Nevertheless, I am pulling for my driver to win, ’cause I am “sticking with the Biff”!

TIL NEXT TIME, PULL YOUR BELTS TIGHT, FLIP YOUR VISOR DOWN, AND LET’S GO RACIN’!
