For those of us who have had the pleasure of walking in through the gates at 16th St. and Georgetown Road, and witnessed a race at this hallowed facility, you will understand what I am about to say.
When the race fans and the competitors enter “The Speedway”, they feel the presence of the legends of motor sports racing all around them. Those haunting specters include such Indy car legends, and four-time Indy 500 winners as A.J. Foyt, Rick Mears. and Al Unser Sr. Additionally there are Bobby Unser, Al Unser, Jr., Mario Andretti, “Lone Star JR”, Johnny Rutherford, Parnelli Jones, Roger Ward, Lloyd Ruby, Billy Vukovich, and many more that have put their mark on “The Brickyard”.
With the 19th NASCAR Sprint Cup race in the books “the door slammers” have now added to their legends, and to the history of The Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Today “Mr. Five-Time”, Jimmie Johnson, has joined his team mate, Jeff Gordon as now being a four-time winner at the Brickyard! Being mentioned with Foyt, Mears, and Al Unser, Sr., is quite impressive! Because of today’s victory, Jimmie Johnson has now added his name to the likes of the most revered race car legends of America!
Now for the fantasy league news. With just four races left in this segment, we have a new leader on the scoreboard! Jason has squeaked his way into a narrow lead. By Jason “sticking with The Biff”, and Dawn’s pick of Harvick, he was able to maneuver his way into a narrow 5 point lead late in this segment.
Movers and shakers
Jeremy, Edie, Jerry, and Carolyn all scored maximum points Sunday, 48 big ones, riding the wave of having “Mr. Five-Time”, Jimmie Johnson scoring his fourth Brickyard victory! Thereby, those four are the biggest shakers of the week!
The two biggest movers, however, were none of the highest scorers. Carolyn moved up in the standings by five positions, resting in sixth place. Equally a big mover was Marc. However, Marc plummeted five places to fall into eleventh place!
Once again, because of the tightness of the standings, almost everybody shuffled a spot or two. The rare exception to the movement theory was Edie and David.
David’s Pick
It appears that the heavy footed David failed to notice that Danica Patrick was not running in the Brickyard 400 Sunday. Therefore, David snagged his second “Golden Goose Egg” of this segment. With the pick of “Miss GoDaddy.com”, David has unequivocally nailed down the rights for “The Boudreaux’s Butt Past Award” for this segment! In fact, he will set a record for the lowest score ever recorded in our fantasy league!!
Let me point out one thing. David’s technique for his second segment choices have left him so far in cellar that he can’t recover. But let me tell you all one thing, when it comes to wheeling a midget around a dirt track, Mr. Prickett can, and does quite often, show the rest the of the field the fast way around the track!
Unfortunately, he isn’t doing so good as a NASCAR handicapper this segment!
Next week it is back to Pocono, again! We went from having four distinctive straight aways and four distinctive turns at Indy, to just three straights and three distinctive turns at “The Tricky Triangle”!
TIL THEN, PULL YOUR GLOVES UP, FLIP YOUR VISOR DOWN, AND LET’S GO RACIN’!
