This week marks the final race of the 2012 Sprint Cup season.  I will admit that it will be extremely difficult  to top the racing that I witnessed from my seat last weekend at Phoenix International Raceway!  There is no doubt that the fighting observed in the garage area, between the Jeff Gordon and Clint Bowyer race teams, will not be replicated at Miami-Homestead, either.

Our Last Picks

The final race of the year finds that almost one third of the players have selected the same driver.  It is quite amazing that last year’s runner-up to Tony Stewart, and this year’s biggest name that is still win-less, Carl Edwards, is the favorite of five players.  Those who are rooting for Carl Edwards are, our leader Carolyn, Jason, Bernie, Dawn, and yours truly, Leon.  We are all hoping that this would be a great time for “Cousin Carl” to break out of his season long funk, and score a dominating victory at Miami-Homestead!

There are three drivers that each have a pair of players betting on the come.  Ryan Newman has Karen and Jerry in his copilot seat for Sunday.  The most popular driver in NASCAR, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. has Jim and Marc in his corner Sunday.  Lastly, in Joey Logano’s last ride in the Joe Gibbs Racing #20 Home Depot Toyota, both Zee and Jeremy are wearing lots of orange Sunday.

The Chase Picks

The way is stands right now, if “Blazingly Bad” Brad Keselowski holds of “Mr. Five-Time”, Jimmie Johnson, there is only one clear winner, Jason.  He was the only player to, at that time, walk waaaay out on a limb to pick the brash young driver from the Penske Racing stable!  That would make my job a lot easier, if “Bad Brad” K wins the championship.  If, however, Johnson somehow pulls a rabbit out of his hat, and wins the Chase, then on first look, yours truly could win his very first Chase pick!!  If that very unlikely event happens, I will fully explain to all how that came about.  But, I would say that, barring some unforeseen freak thing at Miami-Homestead, it is Keselowski’s championship to loose!

I am already starting to suffer from NASCAR withdrawal, knowing that is will be the last race until the Bud Shootout on February 16th.

TIL NEXT TIME, PULL YOUR GLOVES UP, FLIP YOUR VISOR DOWN, AND LET’S GO RACIN’!
