Carl Edwards

Well “Cousin Carl” Edwards finally broke his 70 race win drought Sunday by winning the Subway Fresh Fit 500 at Phoenix Int’l Raceway.  The season is young, in regards to figuring out this new Gen 6 race car.  However, I will say that the racing on this track, Phoenix, was much more exciting than the plate race last week at Daytona!  I am really looking forward to seeing, both the Nationwide and the Sprint Cup, racing on the high banked Las Vegas Motor Speedway this coming weekend.

In fact, Jim, Edie, and yours truly, are heading out of Yuma at 6 am to meet Dan and Bernie at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Monday afternoon.  We will be setting up camp for the week there behind the back straight. Our week will also include two nights of the World of Ourtlaws Sprint Car races Weds. and Thurs. nights at the dirt track.  But I digressed.

Another fact that I would like to mention here for all to read.  David, our resident mudslinging throttle jockey and 2012 USAC Western States Midget dirt track champion, took two of his midgets to Canyon Speedway in Peoria,AZ this past weekend to race in “The Copper On Dirt” USAC event.  Many of the big boys from all over the country, in both the USAC sprint car and midget ranks, were there to compete.  Saturday night David came home 8th in the feature.  His other midget was driven by really “hot shoe” from Kingsburg, CA, Kody Swanson, finished 17th.

Once again, I digress.

Movers and Shakers

Both Edie and Dawn scored maximum points (43) today by picking the winner, “Mr. Five-Time”, Jimmie Johnson to win the race.  Karen, Jeremy, and Sue, scored the second highest points (41) today. Karen was the lone person rooting on Denny Hamlin, while both Jeremy and Sue were onboard “Blazingly Bad” Brad Keselowski’s Miller Lite beer wagon today.

Bernie and Jim had chosen Clint Bowyer today, garnering 38 points from his effort at Phoenix.  Zee and David scored 36 points off of Smoke’s effort.  (Stewart raced his 360 sprinter this weekend at our dirt track here in Yuma.  He grabbed a third Friday night and a fifth Saturday night, all the while getting his guaranteed $15,000 for showing up!)wA previously stated, NASCAR moves from one part of the Southwesten desert, Phoenix, to a venue about 250 miles Northwest, Sin City!  But we all know that~~~~ whatever happens in Vegas, does not always stay in Vegas!!

Good Luck!

I will see you at the track.

TIL NEXT TIME, PULL YOUR GLOVES UP, FLIP YOUR VISOR DOWN, AND LET’S GO RACIN’!
