Matt Kenseth

The race at Kansas Speedway, the STP 400, is over and now just “dust in the wind”!  The end of the STP 400 resembled the third race of the season, where Matt Kenseth held off the hard charging Kasey Kahne at LVMS, aka Sin City!  With this win, Kenseth has now joined “Mr. Five-Time”, Jimmie Johnson, as a two time winner on the circuit in 2013.  Since wins are one measuring stick in NASCAR, especially if outside the top ten in points, but within the top twenty in points, this most likely puts Kenseth in contention to possibly secure a wild card birth into the Chase, if Kenseth falls on hard times later in the season.

Movers and Shakers

The STP 400 was very kind to both Carlton and Karen Sunday.  Both players had chosen Matt Kenseth to win the race, and as such, was rewarded very nicely with 48 points!  Both Jeremy and Zee rallied with the second highest score Sunday, gaining 42 points on the back of Kasey Kahne as their man for the race.

Dan “The Numbers Cruncher” put his “NAPA know how” to good use, riding with Martin Truex, Jr in the STP 400.  Truex had a fairly strong horse Sunday, logging a fourth place finish that gave Dan 41 points, making him the third highest scoring player Sunday.

Edie and Sue scored 39 points, thanks to a really good run from their man, Clint Bowyer, who finished in fifth place in his 5Hour Energy Toyota.

Jim, Dawn, Jason, and yours truly (your humble sheriff), was hanging out with the Miller Lite beer wagon chauffeur, “Blazingly Bad” Brad Keselowski Sunday.  “Bad Brad” K, in spite of going a lap down, persevered, and fought his way to a sixth place finish!  Therefore that finish of gave those four individuals 38 points.

Looking at the overall standings after this race, there was very little movement this week.  Notwithstanding that fact, Jerry was the single largest mover this week.  Unfortunately, Jerry fell out like a lone dove flying into a barrage of 12 gauge shotguns!  He plummeted seven spots, falling from sixth (6th) place to crash-land, wheels up I might add, in thirteenth (13th) place!

Conversely, on the positive side, Jeremy climbed up three (3) spots this week in the standings now residing in eleventh (11th) spot!  Dan and Marc stepped up two spots each this week, to sixth (6th) and eighth (8th) place, respectively.

Next Saturday night NASCAR will run under the lights at the Henrico County Fairgrounds, better known these days at the Richmond International Raceway!

Good Luck to all!

So as the race team haulers pull out of Kansas, and head back to Charlotte, the memories of the STP 400 is just “Dust In The Wind”, so “Carry On My Wayward Son”!

TIL NEXT TIME, PULL YOUR GLOVES UP, FLIP YOUR VISORS DOWN, AND LET’S GO RACIN”!
