Sunday was Jeff Gordon’s 42nd birthday, and for a time last in the race, it looked like he would be celebrating that birthday in the the Winner’s Circle, it was not to be! Just as quickly, and as easily, as Gordon had stolen the lead from his teammate, Kasey Kahne, on a restart just a few laps earlier, Kahne returned the favor. However, this time it was for all the marbles, and the victory, in the GoBowling.com 400 at Pocono!
The Movers and Shakers
This week we had two players, Edie and “Karen The Unofficial Mouth Of The South”, scored the maximum 48 points, with their pick of Kasey Kahne. Marc and Carlton were the next highest scorers. They both were on the “Mr. Five-Time”, Jeff Gordon bandwagon, hoping that Gordon would have an extra reason to celebrate his 42nd birthday! Nevertheless, Gordon did not win but he did finished in second place, thereby giving them 43 points for their efforts.
“Jeremy The Coach” and “Dan The Numbers Cruncher” had very good results netted from picking “Blazingly Bad” Brad Keselowski. Keselowski’s finish gave them a nifty 39 points Sunday. Jim and Dawn each scored 36 points, but from different drivers. Jim selected TLVW (Kyle Busch), and Dawn was riding with “Smoke”, Tony Stewart.
“Jerry The Buschwacker” and “A&M Aggie Sue” each grabbed 30 points when their driver, Clint Bowyer, had a reasonably good race.
As has been the case for much of this segment, there was wide spread movement throughout the standings. In fact, there was only three out of the seventeen players who did not move up or down in the standings.
The single largest mover this week was Carole. With her choice of Denny Hamlin, which seemingly would have been a great choice considering his great track record at Pocono, she should have grabbed a boatload of points Sunday. However, that was not even close! Hamlin was the first car out of the race, and therefore, Carole only was awarded one (1) minuscule point! In light of that totally devastating performance, Carole dropped like a bad habit from 9th to 16th place!
Likewise, “Jason The Latent Tie Dye Hippie” suffered from his pick in the GoBowling.com 400. Jason selected “the Wisconsin rich kid”, Paul Menard, as his ticket to the top. Unfortunately, the choice of Menard only gave Jason 12 points. Scoring only 12 points gave Jason a first class ticket to take the express elevator from his previous 10th spot directly to the 15th place. He did not pass Go, and definitely did not collect $200!
Jim, “Karen The Unofficial Mouth Of The South”, Dawn, and Carlton all climbed up three spots from the previous resting places.
“Richard The NASCAR Picker” and “Bernie the Bay Area Bandit” moved up two spots, meanwhile, “Jerry The Buschwacker” fell two places this week.
Straight From The Crapper
This week Carole had the biggest dramatic fall, scoring just one point! She, obviously, is giving serious consideration as to what our prestigious “Outhouse Award” plaque would look like by her TV in their motorhome!
Notwithstanding the precipitous fall from grace by Carole, “David The Mudslinging Throttle Jockey” has suddenly made a very strong run at being the very first back-to-back “Outhouse Award” winner! He, too, was onboard the JGR FedEx #11 Toyota of Denny Hamlin for the Pocono race. That single point of reward made David’s stock fall to the floor like a prom dress!
So it should be no surprise that David, along with Carole, have now secured their spots as this week’s “crappiest picks”!
Next week NASCAR moves the show to the second and final road race of the year, Watkins Glen near the finger lakes of upstate NY.
That’s right NASCAR is in a NY state of mind!
Good luck to all!
TIL NEXT TIME, PULL YOUR GLOVES UP, FLIP YOUR VISOR DOWN, AND LET’S GO RACIN’!
