The second segment begins this week at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Memorial Day weekend. This weekend is the unofficial beginning of summer and it is, without a doubt the biggest race weekend of the entire year. Sunday morning starts out with Grand Prix of Monaco, then next up is the Indy 500, followed by the NASCAR Coca-Cola 600!
This is also the weekend that we take time out of our fun-filled family weekend to think about, personally thank, and honor the men and women who paid the ultimate price to secure our freedom and allow us to do the things that we love to do! Many of those warriors are interred at Arlington. The most decorated warrior in US history rests just across the street from the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier, legendary movie actor Audie Murphy, who was just 5′ 5″ tall!
Some may not know or remember what the origins of Arlington National Cemetary. The house that sits atop the hill on that sprawling piece of land that has been turned into a place that we place our war heroes for eternal rest, and at one time belonged to an interesting historical figure in this country. The origin of this property is that it was the Robert E. Lee family farm. Yes, that same General Robert E. Lee who resigned his commission in the US Army to be the Commanding General of the Confederate Army!
Our Charlotte Choices
More than one-third of The Redneck Fantasy League is backing the 2017 MENCS champion, Martin Truex, Jr. Those players who are hoping that Truex can log his second victory of 2018 include, Karen The Highly Opinionated Southern Belle, Kathy The Church Forecloser, Carlton The Doorman, Snoopy Dawn, Linda R. The Lemonade Lefty, Amber Hardcore Hulsey, Edie The Las Vegas Super Star, as well as Leon The Retired Airline Captain, Part-Time Cardiologist, Strawberry Picker, former Elephant Driver, as well as Your Most Humble Sheriff.
Bobby Blue Crush, David The Mudslinging Throttle Jockey, and Doug The Gandy Candy Man are putting all their marbles into the marble sack of Mr. Seven-Time, Jimmie Johnson. It is just a matter of time before, this trio is betting, that ol J.J. will be driving his hot rod into Victory Lane, hoist the hardware, and punch his ticket into the 2018 Playoffs.
Next, we have three drivers that have a rooting section of two players each.
A&M Aggie Sue and Linda B. The Cookie Mom are banding together to get behind The Outlaw, aka Kurt Busch. Both players are hoping that KuBu can add another Charlotte victory to his NASCAR resume this weekend. KuBu has been in a drought since his 2017 Daytona 500 victory and has not won a race in 2018. So a victory at Charlotte would give “The Outlaw” the desired “Golden Pass” to the Playoffs.
Meanwhile, Jerry The Buschwacker and Jim, aka Chiefy, are, together, joining forces and cheering “The Shrub”, Kyle Busch, on to his fourth victory of this season. Can “Rowdy” be there at the end and drive his hot rod into Victory Lane? That answer will come late Sunday night as the checkered flag flies at Charlotte.
Lastly, Carole, aka Rudy, and Zee, aka Sissy, will have their best Chase Elliott gear on Sunday! In fact, both of these women are hoping that the Dawsonville Pool Hall will be firing up the ol siren that sits on the roof there. That is the same siren, or as it is called by some, “Sireeeeeen”, that would blare loudly and proudly every single time “Awesome Bill From Dawsonville” would win a NASCAR race!
Adding up the numbers this week shows that seventeen (17) players pooling together in their choices. For all of the math majors or math teachers among us, that leaves five players who are independent thinkers. But what they really are would be five players in bidnez for themselves!
