Kurt Busch

Some folks like to get away,
Take a holiday from the neighborhood
Hop a flight to Miami Beach or to Hollywood
But I’m takin’ a Greyhound on the Hudson River line
I’m in a New York state of mind!

That’s right folks, this week the NASCAR haulers are in a “NY State of Mind“, and are heading once again to the Northeast, to the beautiful Finger Lakes country of western/upstate New York.  The tiny picturesque hamlet of Watkins Glen is located 79 miles southwest of Syracuse and 86 miles southeast of Rochester, right at the southern tip of Lake Seneca.  NASCAR makes its annual summer visit to this unique, and very fast, upstate New York race track.

I have flown in and out of both Syracuse and Rochester in my Eastern Airline days of the 1980’s, and it is truly a beautiful part of New York state!  But this weekend, race fans, it is time to turn left and right and to get down on the loud pedal and let the big dog eat!

Our Picks At The Glen

We have two groups of three players each who share the spotlight this week at Watkins Glen.  Obviously, the accompanying photo would suggest that Kurt Busch, formerly known as “The Outlaw”, is one of the two drivers that leads off our Watkins Glen International discussions this week.  Joining the KuBu bandwagon this week is Edie The Las Vegas Super Star, Doug The Gandy Candy Man, and good Ol Skid-Marc.

Likewise, “Blazingly Bad” Brad Keselowski is sitting tall with support at The Glen.  Backing the former Cup champion this week includes Carole, aka Rudy, Zee, aka Sissy, and Jim, aka Chiefy.  All three players are hoping that Kes can resurrect his old ways, get to the front of the pack, repeat one of his more memorable races with KyBu and Marcos Ambrose at The Glen, pull out a win, and hoist the hardware at the end of the Sunday.

This week both Karen The Highly Opinionated Southern Belle and Jerry The Buschwacker are teaming up to support and back “The Kansas Wildman”, Clint Bowyer.  Bowyer is a good road racer and has a victory under his belt at Sonoma in 2012.  Could he add the other road course to his resume this week?

Meanwhile, A&M Aggie Sue and Linda R. The Lemonade Lefty are together in their support for Mr. Seven-Time, Jimmie JohnsonOl JJ is in the longest winless stretch of his illustrious and celebrated Cup career.  Each week his rooting section is hoping that this is the week that ol JJ will drive his HMS hot rod into Victory Lane and celebrate.

Jeremy The Coach and Bernie The Bay Area Bandit are teaming up together to root Jamie McMurray on to Victory Lane at The Glen.  Some may think that this choice is out on a limb.  Oh but contrare my friends, Jamie Mac came up through the road racing of go-karts and he can handle the lefts and rights at The Glen!

Rounding out the choices this week is the fact that Snoopy Dawn and Leon Your Most Humble Sheriff teaming up together rooting on the only international driver in the field, Mexico’s own Daniel Suarez.  For those that are not necessarily in the know, Suarez’ early racing days down South of the Border was heavily ladened with road course races.  This could be his breakout Cup race.

After analyzing the above 14 players choices, we have 8 players remaining that are independent thinkers, or as we say here in The Redneck Fantasy League, they are in bidnez for themselves!

Good luck to all!
