As most of you who read my Wednesday post know I generally try to talk a little bit about the upcoming race track’s history and geography.

Well, for those of you who have not been to the Daytona International Speedway there is a surprise when you arrive there.  It sits right to the north of the Daytona airport.  Directly across the street, on International Blvd, for the entire length of the race track property is all kinds of shops and restaurants in the various blocks of malls!

The back straight abuts the airport property and runway 09/27 specifically.  As the cars roll into turn #3 you can see the Terminal for the airport.  About a half a mile beyond turn #3 you can see the red roof line of Halifax Hospital where Dale Earnhardt, Sr. was pronounced dead after his horrible accident in 2001.  Further out in the distance you can see the hotels that line the beach at Daytona.

About two miles on the other side of the Daytona airport (south) is where the original Daytona beach races occurred on A1A and the beach back in the the late 40′ and early 50’s.

Our Daytona Picks

This week Kevin Harvick and Martin Truex, Jr. have secured the majority of the players into their respective camps for the 500!
This week Truex has a full hot rod!  There are five players who are betting their respective farms that he will win in his very first race driving the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 19 Toyota!  Those five players include Kathy The Church ForecloserSnoopy DawnJim, aka ChiefyLinda B. The Cookie Mom, and lastly our resident accountant, Dan The Numbers Cruncher.

On the other hand, Linda R. The Lemonade LeftyBernie The Bay Area BanditJeremy The CoachDavid The Mudslinging Throttle Jockey, and Bill The Pretzel Man are putting their marbles into the marble sack of “Freaky Fast” Kevin Harvick Sunday.

Meanwhile, Carole, aka Rudy and Amber The Extremely Lucky Cheddar Head are solidly behind Kyle Busch this week.

Lastly, Lonna The Quilt Angel and Edie The Las Vegas Super Star think that “Young Money”, Kyle Larson, can finally break the string of bad luck that has haunted him at Daytona for his entire short career and drive his hot rod into Victory Lane Sunday.

Counting the numbers, I have talked about 14 players this week.  That leaves 4 players who are independent thinkers, but they are really in bidnez for themselves this week!

Hopefully, the transition to a new hosting facility will be finished by next week on The Redneck Fantasy League website!  Then my tech dude, read Jason The Latent Tie Dye Hippie and All Around Edgy Dude, will be working on a new look to the website!!

As the Sun rises Sunday morning over the Daytona International Speedway there will be a gathering of about 161,000 of my closest Redneck friends. I have often wondered as I sat in my rental car in that parking lot awaiting the sunrise, “I wonder what makes these folks ‘country’?

TIL NEXT TIME PULL YOUR GLOVES UP, FLIP YOUR VISOR DOWN, AND LET’S GO RACIN’!
