Brad Keselowski won Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in overtime. The sport’s longest race went 405 laps rather than 400 at the 1.5-mile track in Concord, North Carolina.
The No. 2 Team Penske Ford took off from the lead position on the final restart and held off Jimmie Johnson in the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet in the late two-lap dash. Johnson finished in second, 0.293 seconds behind Keselowski. Chase Elliott came in third.
Elliott was actually leading when the eighth and final caution came out. With two laps to go in regulation, William Byron’s No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet went for a spin. Elliott opted to pit for fresher tires, giving Keselowski the front spot for the restart. Johnson restarted front row alongside Keselowski.
Ryan Blaney wound up fourth, followed by Kyle Busch in fifth. Kevin Harvick, Martin Truex Jr. and Kurt Busch filled up the next three spots, as rookies Tyler Reddick and Christopher Bell rounded out the top 10.
Alex Bowman, who led a race-high 164 laps, swept the first two stages, with Truex. coming in second at each of those green-white checkered. Elliott was third in Stage 1, while Busch was third in Stage 2. Joey Logano won the third stage. Bowman came runner-up. Blaney was third.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Now just remember we are still in the NASCAR “catch up” part of the season. This race, Charlotte 1, is a race from the 2nd segment sheet, as was Darlington 2. So we have now had two races in segment two and the next five races will be from the 1st segment sheet! I know it gets confusing, but hang with me and it will all work out! LOL!
THE FRATERNAL ORDER OF THE GO FAST
So far in the first seven races run in. 2020 The Redneck Fantasy League is 0-fer-seven in picking the race winner! I think this is the longest we have gone without one player picking the race winner! So this award will remain under lock and key in the closet!
THE MOVERS AND THE SHAKERS
Ten of the eleven players had a smokin’ good Charlotte 1 race!
The biggest scorers Sunday was duo of Edie The Las Vegas Super Star and Leon. Your Most Humble Sheriff. Each player was riding on the back of Martin Truex, Jr. MTJ was exceptionally strong in the middle and the last half of the race, only to fade microscopically in the last few laps. For Truex’s 7th place victory, and his stage successes, The Sheriff and The Super Star posted 54 points to their tallies.
Doing almost equally as well today was Snoopy Dawn and Dan The Numbers Cruncher. Both players were betting the farm for Kyle Busch to have a clean race, not turn anyone into the fence, and thereby lead the field to the checkered flag. Well, Rowdy didn’t drive anyone into the fence this week, but the best he could do Sunday was a 5th place finish. Nevertheless, he delivered 50 points to Snoopy and The Numbers Dude.
Scoring only two points less that the above mentioned duet is Carole, aka Rudy and Linda The Cookie Mom. Their dude for Charlotte 1 was the recipient of last week’s drop kick from Rowdy, Chase Elliott. Chase was setup to win the race with over 1.5 seconds lead on Blazingly Bad Brad, then the yellow flag flew! Chase was able to race himself back up to 3rd place on the Green-White-Checker of overtime and delivered 48 points to these ladies.
Meanwhile, the trio of Carlton The Doorman, Jim, aka Chiefy, as well as Amber The Extremely Lucky Cheddar Head were putting all their marbles into the marble bag of the birthday boy, Joey Logano. With his stage win and the 14th place race finish, Sliced Bread deposited 43 points into this trio’s totals.
Rounding out the top five scorers is Jeremy The Coach, who miraculously gathered in seven (7) dinky points from Denny Hamlin’s horrendous Coca Cola 600 results.
Only Dan the Numbers Dude and Jeremy The Coach remained in their previous week’s position. The remaining nine players all changed zip codes after Charlotte 1.
The biggest mover of this race is Bernie The Bay Area Bandit. La Bandita plunged five (5) places to rest just outside of The Outhouse in 10th place.
There was a trio that includes Edie The Las Vegas Super Star, Carole, aka Rudy, as well as Linda The Cookie Mom, that climbed up three (3) spots to reside in 4th, 6th, and 7th, respectively.
However, Carlton The Doorman was not nearly as fortunate as the above three players. The Doorman slipped down two (2) places to now sit in 8th place.
Lastly there are four players who moved one position this race. The four include Leon Your Most Humble Sheriff, Snoopy Dawn, Amber The Extremely Lucky Cheddar Head, and Jim, aka Chiefy. Snoopy, The Cheddar Head, and Chiefy all slipped one (1) place and not sit in 2nd, 5th, and 9th, respectively. Your Most Humble Sheriff stepped up one place to take over the lead in the 2nd segment sheet.
STRAIGHT FROM THE CRAPPER
The Charlotte 1 race today just streamlined both of the prestigious weekly awards. This week Jeremy The Coach qualified for both The Crappiest Pick of The Week award, scoring just 7 points, and The Outhouse award. He went from having a roommate at his abode last week to being the sole occupant this week!
